We have witnessed many disturbing things in the last 21 months from our current administration. From xenophobia and homophobia to blatant racism and misogyny, to separating thousands of families at our borders and locking children in cages, the list of human rights violations and acts of ignorance and hatred is long and distressing.
In addition, the Senate just confirmed a man with multiple sexual allegations against him and questionable temperament and behavior, to the highest court in our country.
It’s enough to make all of us want to toss our passports in the toilet and move to Canada.
Justin Trudeau, anyone?
Robert F. Kennedy once said, “Don’t get mad, get even.” Getting angry is fine (I’d be surprised if you weren’t angry – I’ve been known to send out a bunch of furious tweets myself), but it’s how you channel that anger and frustration that matters. Social media posts can be entertaining, educational, and even cathartic, but they’re not going to actually change anything.
There’s only one way to stop the downward spiral we currently find ourselves in and course correct our current direction. Every single one of us must VOTE. The mid-term elections are Tuesday November 6th.
Voting is our fundamental right and a part of our civic responsibility – and it’s the only way that we can change and shape our communities.
You can choose to sit on the sidelines, feeling angry and helpless, or you can get registered, get involved and fight for a future that works for everyone. Progress doesn’t just happen, it’s going to take each and every one of us to make a difference and facilitate real change.
