1. What are three words that best describe you?
Chilled, wealthy, funny
2. Tell us why you’re awesome in two sentences or less.
I help women get over their fear of money. When women have more money, they can change the world!
3. What are your three biggest indulgences?
I never really feel guilty about this any more, so they don’t feel like indulgences:
– My housekeeper: she takes care of me like she’s my mother (or wife!)
– Weekly movie date with a girlfriend at the fancy cinema
– Weekly salon appointment so I have bouncy fresh hair every Monday
Restaurant: I rarely eat out at restaurants because my kids are small, so like… McDonalds?
Food: Eating kale from my own garden makes me feel so earth-mothery
Cocktail: Does beer count?
Shopping destination/store: Seriously, Target. I was just there today. Apart from that, I dream about going back to Paris to buy bread and pastries.
Fashion item: I can’t go past a caftan, especially Camilla ones or Girl on a Vine. I’ve bought a million dresses from Aloha Lucy and Billabong. I’m obsessed with Icon Pee Proof Panties. I also have way too much denim. I really like the comfy shoes from Taos.
Place to hangout: My couch. I’m a mega introvert and I like the idea of the beach more than actually going. The cinema is my happy place.
City: I miss living in London, except for the weather, which sucks but I miss the theatre scene. I also love my town, Newcastle. It’s so chilled and relaxed.
Travel item: As long as I have my passport and credit card, I’m happy. Packing cubes from Kathmandu make packing so easy. I also go to salons when I’m traveling, so I don’t have to take all my hair styling stuff. I want one of the turquoise suitcases from American Tourister.
Beauty product: I don’t wear makeup every day but I’m really glad I got my eyebrows microbladed. I also got a Zazen filter for my office so I drink more water.
Skincare product: I love the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. Somehow a good scrub always makes me feel alive! The Thank You brand body coffee scrub is awesome too and all profits help fight global poverty.
Hostess gift: The Incense & Embers Jo Malone candle. I always grab a new one when I’m in an airport. In the future, everyone will get roses from my farm and maybe one day honey too!
Home décor item: I get a bit cushion crazy. When I was pregnant and nesting, I bought 40 cushions online. My husband freaked out when they all arrived, so he banned me for a while!
Book: I’m currently reading Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, as slowly as I can to really savor it. I also love reading celebrity autobiographies.
Website: When I’m not reading about business or marketing, I catch up on my celebrity gossip at LaineyGossip.com and Celebitchy.com
Magazine: I’ve been obsessed with CountryStyle magazine for a while and it inspired me to buy a rose farm in the country that I’ll turn into a retreat center for female entrepreneurs. I also always buy Vanity Fair and the sustainability magazine Peppermint
5. What’s the ONE thing you absolutely can’t live without?
At the moment, my iPhone. It’s my business tool, my lifeline to friends and family and my entertainment. I’m so grateful for the technology. It’s pretty amazing that we can run a whole business from it.
6. What is your biggest pet peeve?
When people say money is evil. Money can do a lot of good in the world, but we need it in the hands of more good people.
7. If you could have dinner with anyone (living or not) who would it be, and WHY?
The biggest inspiration behind my life and business is Oprah. She makes me want to be a better person and to serve more in my life and business. We could pick kale from her garden and swap gardening tips. When I met her briefly a few years ago, she told me that she shops at Target too!
8. What does it mean to you to have a strong, engaging brand and how has having one helped you?
My brand motto is “my face is my fortune” which is my shortcut reminder to SHOW UP. Make the videos, not be scared to speak up, and not put off getting new photos. When I show up, I make money.
9. What is one piece of advice you would give your younger self?
Inspiring people IS a job. You’re dissatisfied at work because you’re not meant to be there. Keep learning and dreaming.
10. What is one piece of advice you would give to women today about staying true to themselves and succeeding on their own terms?
Why not you? Nobody can want it more than you want it for yourself. But you have to SHOW UP.
